As our world becomes ever more digital, it is essential that we not only teach our students how to be good digital citizens, but that we also model appropriate behaviors, as well. We need to teach ourselves and our students to be conscious of our interactions with others and with content that is available within the digital world. We want teachers and students to engage in the world through social media and other digital platforms, while being conscious of their safety and showing respect by giving credit for someone else's work that you use and using appropriate words and voice.

Each badge includes lessons on all components Digital Citizenship: Internet Safety, Digital Footprints & Reputation, Privacy & Security, Self-Image & Identity, Relationship & Communication, Information Literacy, Cyber Bullying & Digital Drama, and Creative Credit & Copyright. Use the Explore button to learn more about the Common Sense Media Digital Citizenship curriculum, then select which badge you would like to work on. After you have worked your way through the unit videos and activities for the grade level selected, complete the unit lessons with your students, including the unit assessment.
Since the curriculum is designed for use with your students, your documentation will need to show that you used these videos and lessons with your students. Documentation could include scanned PDFs of student completed activity sheets, digital pictures of students engaged in an activity, a PDF version of the unit assessment certificate completed by each of your students, or any other digital documentation that you can provide to show that your students completed the unit lessons. You will need to upload all documentation to a Google Drive folder so that you will have a shareable link.
Each unit throughout the curriculum consists of five lessons, with a lesson plan, videos, and activities for each. If you work through each of the lessons with your students and submit the assessment certificates with your application, you can earn .5 CEU for each of the Digital Citizenship unit badges.
The Digital Bytes badge application can be submitted for .2 CEUs of credit, based on each byte being designed to take about 2 hours to complete.
